After the previous weekend being part of the Wealden Times Midwinter Fair with over 200 stall holders and grand elaborate stands, this weekend we experienced a very different craft fair. We packed up our jewellery and headed down to Rye Harbour for a weekend by the sea.
Every year, Avocet Gallery in Rye Harbour put on a Christmas exhibition and have a launch weekend where they work alongside a craft fair featuring local artists and crafters. When the opportunity came along we snapped at the chance to be part of the festivities.
We were situated in Rye Harbour Sailing Club with beautiful view of the sea. The small selection of exhibitors had been handpicked. Alongside us we had John with amazing wooden whales, Sally with her delicious marshmallows, Anna with beautiful cards of her paintings, Lynn with tasty cakes, Judith with her outstanding paintings, Meg with the most wonderful knitting, Bill with his amazing signs and the company “Splodge It and Tidy” who had cleverly crafted items collected from the seaside and turned them in to stunning homemade decorations.
We were a cozy bunch in the Sailing Club and had so much fun as people came in throughout the day to view our work, drink some mulled cider and eat a mince pie. It was very much a social occasion and the people who came in, came in wanting to buy. We also had plenty of 4 legged friends so had to keep a close eye on the mince pies which were conveniently on the table at dog height!
Everyone’s sales were really strong, ours included. Whereas the majority of our sales to date have been related to children, all sales this weekend were related to our 4 legged friends, a testament to the beautiful surroundings of Rye Harbour, perfect for dogs.
One dog who we become very fond of was Ted who came in and had his paw print taken. He was an incredibly well behaved but energetic puppy. We were going to take his prints in the main room, but realised that all mince pies and marshmallows might be too much of a distraction for him so ended up crouched down taking his prints next to the mens urinals!
We really had so much fun this weekend and came away feeling it was a real success. We met so many wonderful people who made us laugh and smile. We loved hearing their stories and loved our weekend by the sea. We really hope it runs again next year as we would love to be part of it.
